| Brazil Discovery | |
| Brazil was discovered on 22 April 1500 by the Portuguese Navigator Pedro Alvares Cabral. The name of the country comes from a type of indigenous wood called “pau brasil” which is reddish in color. Shortly after the discovery of Brazil, the period of colonization started with Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and the English all attracted in acquiring the riches of the country.After the Portuguese court was moved to Rio de Janeiro due to the expulsion of its court by Napoleon in Europe, Brazil was the leading country in the Portuguese Empire | |
| In 1822 however, the Portuguese Prince officially proclaimed Brazil an independent country.In 1889, after a period of economic crisis causing some leaders to lose faith in the institution of the monarchy, Brazil, on the 15 of November was declared a Federal Republic.
The following day, the royal family was asked to leave the country for good and return to Portugal. Until this day, even through a few bouts of military direct rule, the country is a Republic and its President is elected directly by the people. In fact Brazil is one of the most stable countries in Latin America. Brazil is Considered a very musical Country. This is most due to its ethnic origins: the Indians with their red flutes, the Africans with their drums and multiplicity of rhythms, and the Portuguese with their singers and love of the guitar. This variety is found from the classical compositions of Villa Lobos, to the sweet movements of Bossa Nova, to the excitement of the Samba! Music in Brazil shows evidence of sophistication, quality and variety. Passion for sports in Brazil is witnessed thought the nearly 8,000 sports clubs in the country. While basketball, volleyball, tennis, surfing and a few other sports are played here, the most followed and famous of them all is futeball (football or soccer). In BRAZIL everything is on a large scale owing to the size of the country (the 5th largest in the world and larger than the continental USA). Forests cover nearly 65% of the national territory and Brazil has the largest Tropical region in the world. The mighty Amazon is not only beautiful but holds most of the world’s bio diversity and still has an amazing wealth of rare plants that can be used in modern medicine. The regions of Brazil The differences between Brazilian regions can be enormous. In the south most people are of European origin (especially Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and German origins). There are always magnificent sub-tropical beaches, mountains, and canyons to enjoy all with a European flare. In the North-east of the country, beautiful tropical beaches lined with romantic palm trees and a warm sea are to be experienced by all. One region, Bahia, with its capital of Salvador, is the most African of the Brazilian regions. In the Amazon region, adventure awaits those with a hankering of exploration and romantic notion of another In the interior of the country of Central West, one experiences a tropical paradise with forgotten swamplands complete with a bio-diversity unrivalled outside of Brazil. Rare animals and plants are all to be found and witnessed in this dynamic and little changed region. Native Brazilians are considered to be very cordial and friendly. They easily mix traditional family values with new ways thinking. It is a wonderful experience to go with a Brazilian to a local BBQ meal “churrascheria” or to dance the Samba. Brazilians are also somewhat patriotic and have a deep love for their country. The Brazilian character can be seen and based upon their love of their natural paradise like environment and their love of romance, family and happiness. |
